Factors influencing organizational productivity

Every organization, company, start-ups etc. strive for growth and success. Apart from various secondary goals their main objective is to increase the revenue which can be achieved by increasing productivity. However, very few companies or organizations among thousands can actually achieve this goal. The obvious question that would come to mind is that if the goal is crystal clear and easy to understand why only few organizations can achieve this? The reason is that to achieve a substantial and consistent growth organizational productivity has to grow consistently in quantity and quality. Since today’s business is driven by IT, improving productivity in this area could be the key to success for any business.

Location and IT Infrastructure: Location of the organization plays a vital role. The location of the organization should be easily accessible using public or private transport. This helps employees to reach easily to work location with fresh mind and body as a result increasing productivity. The infrastructure of the organizations is a crucial factor which directly influences the productivity of the organization. This includes the work station where the employees sit and work. The availability of high speed machines to work on and up to date servers. Availability of high speed internet if it’s part of the work profile. This can help the employees focus on the work without any interruption and their productivity is not hampered.
  1. Skilled Man Power:  Man power is a major and the most critical resource affecting the productivity of an organization. Hence, hiring the right candidate for the right job is very important. In case of IT development and support, people with good technical and analytical skills are preferred. People with good logical thinking and problem solving abilities are also preferred for jobs in IT. The right person for the job will result in consistent high quality productivity with minimum reworks and errors. Thus, ensuring consistent organizational growth.
  2. IT security: In today’s world, IT has become a very important part which is responsible for growth as well as downfall of an organization. This is another major component which indirectly affects the organizational growth. This includes, setting up and following various security procedures in order to secure valuable data from getting stolen, corrupt etc. This also includes various other procedures and data maintenance techniques which helps maintain the authenticity of data and there is no data related issues faced by the organization. Setting up firewalls, restricted access to users to Internet and internal data servers, appropriate authentication processes access cards etc.
  3. IT Management: In technology driven world, IT has directly or indirectly become an integral part of each and every organization. This includes IT as well as non-IT organizations. Without IT, it is impossible for an organization to maintain a consistent growth. Thus, IT management has gained tremendous importance in recent times. Organizations have realized that to sustain an edge in the competitive market it is very important to pay special attention towards managing IT. This includes Automation, Standardization, IT hardware, IT support, IT governance and evolving with the technology. Details are as listed below:
    1. Automation: This includes moving the whole manual processes on IT based applications. This will increase efficiency, reduce errors and manpower thus resulting in quick, smooth and error free processes. This also removes the dependency factor to a great extend.
    2. Standardization: This includes reducing differences and adhering to a standard process / procedure / protocol across the organization. For example: Single Login password for all Applications which helps in reducing time and improving efficiency as users just have to remember one password. This reduces risks of forgetting / leakage of passwords. Reduces the frequency of forgot/change password request considerably thus reducing waste of time.
    3. IT Support: This is another factor that influences the productivity of an organization. An efficient support team can resolve bugs and issues in minimum possible time by properly prioritizing them and addressing them with analytical and logical approach. Thus, processes of an organization continue to function smoothly without any stoppage and breakdowns. Thus, consistent productivity can be achieved.
    4. IT Hardware / IT Software: This is another section, if ignored can severely affect IT in turn affecting the productivity of the organization. Thus, various standards and quality tests are carried out in various organizations before implementing any IT hardware / Software. This helps organization to be sure that the IT Hardware / Software implemented is of the best quality, easily available with excellent and quick service.
Thus it can be seen that an organization can consistently improve its productivity and become successful when the above mentioned factors are properly managed.
